After graduating from Brock University with an Honours Bachelor of Accounting (Co-op Option) in 2005, I received the Chartered Accountant designation in 2006 and went on to complete the CPA Canada In-depth tax program in 2008.  I have also completed other CPA Canada programs including Corporate Reorganizations and Fundamentals of International Taxation. With over 14 years of practicing tax full-time, I have worked in several practice areas including private and public company taxation, high net worth clientele, trusts and estates and small businesses and individuals.  Overall I am drawn to working with those who can benefit the most from my expertise since taxes affect our personal income, cash flow and retirement potential.  My expertise brings piece of mind for my client's tax and  financial position.

Tax Consulting Services

Lawyers

Legal and tax services go hand-in-hand. A lawyer's clients may need tax advice for:

  • Estates and Trust tax compliance, passing of accounts
  • Family Law issues such as support payments, divorce
  • Real estate transactions including clearance certificates for non-resident transactions
  • Business succession planning
  • Cross-border taxation issues

Accountants

Working with an external tax consultant provides the expertise when you need it:

  • Business succession planning
  • Complex trusts and estates
  • Tax computations such as safe income, capital gains exemptions, replacement property
  • Tax elections for property transfers
  • Partnerships
  • Cross-border taxation issues
  • Dealing with Canada Revenue Agency for objections, audits, taxpayer fairness provisions, voluntary disclosures

Estate Executors

Executors have a big responsibility to make sure the estate's affairs are carried out.  An experienced tax consultant can help with:

  • Filing the final tax return for the deceased person
  • Tax return(s) for the estate based on income allocations from the deceased according to the will
  • Determine tax impact of estate planning
  • Other tax compliance including clearance certificates, dealing with Canada Revenue Agency

Small Businesses

The challenge for entrepreneurs is to find time to work on their business while also working  in their business.  An accountant who is also a tax expert can assist with:

  • Tax filing requirements for income taxes and HST
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Tax planning for paying yourself
  • Business succession planning
  • Canada Revenue Agency audits
  • HST issues
  • Cross-border taxation including non-resident businesses providing services or products in Canada

Individuals

Personal taxes can be complicated. A tax professional will ensure your taxes are done right and tax savings are achieved:

  • Rental property
  • Investments/capital gains
  • Small business ventures
  • Handling Canada Revenue Agency reviews, objections and T1 Adjustments
  • non-resident individuals working in Canada

Tax Efficient Retirement

We are taught to save for retirement but little guidance exists as to how to ensure that the plan is tax efficient.  Canada has a tax system that assigns different tax rates to various types of income which can significantly affect your annual cash flow, not the mention the tax paid on death that will affect the financial assets of the surviving spouse and/or beneficiaries.  A tax analysis of your retirement plan will provide peace of mind.
